Loras College is a Catholic, liberal arts institution committed to creating a campus community that strives to help students and employees become active learners, reflective thinkers, ethical decision-makers and responsible contributors in their diverse professional, social and religious roles.  We seek a Director of Human and Organizational Development to provide visionary leadership and continue translating our mission into community practices.  Specifically, we are looking for an individual able to use our mission to enhance the campus ethos so as to maximize the success of every member of our community.  This position requires the successful candidate to plan and develop additional initiatives that foster diversity and equity in all of its forms at Loras College.  Therefore, the Director will be responsible for continuing the professional development and training of our employees.  Strong candidates will be proactive, creative, comprehensive in decision-making, and open to learning new skills.

Duties:

* Administer compensation, benefits and performance management systems.

* Identify staff and faculty vacancies and oversee recruitment, interviewing and selection of applicants.

* Allocate human resources, ensuring appropriate matches between personnel.

* Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits.

* Perform difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, firing employees, and administering disciplinary procedures.

* Advise Administrative team, directors and line managers on College policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, diversity and sexual harassment, and recommend needed changes.

* Analyze and modify compensation and benefit policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

* Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward College mission, vision and organizational objectives.

* Serve as a link between administration and employees by handling questions, developing, interpreting and administering policy and helping resolve work-related problems.

* Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of subordinates and staff relating to employment, compensation, labor relations, and employee relations.

* Analyze organizational training needs to design employee professional development programs.

* Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, transfers, performance appraisals, and absenteeism rates.

* Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations for improvement of the College's personnel policies and practices.

* Plan, organize, direct, control or coordinate the personnel, training, and organizational development activities of the College.

* Conduct exit interviews to identify reasons for employee termination.

* Represents the College at personnel-related hearings and investigations.

* Prepare personnel forecast to project employment needs.

* Prepare and follow budgets for Human and Organizational Development operations.

* Develop, administer and evaluate applicant tests and conduct background investigations as necessary.

* Oversee the evaluation, classification and rating of occupations and job positions.

* Stays informed of industry trends and changes in the Human Resources and Organizational Development fields.

* Develop or administer special projects as required.

* Maintains professional business relations with various trade groups, professional organizations and other higher education institutional human resource professionals.

* Supports the mission and vision of the College and respects the College's Catholic intellectual tradition.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (four year college or university) in Human Resources, Organizational Development or related field required.

Four to ten years related experience.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Datatel familiarity desired.

PHR/SPHR highly desired.  If not certified, able to achieve certification within three years.

Professional training in Human and Organizational development and understanding of relevant laws.  Experience in higher education preferred, but not required.
