The Criminal Justice program at Loras College invites applications from individuals with a Ph.D. in criminal justice or a related field or a J.D. to fill a full-time tenure-track position in a criminal justice program with approximately 60 majors.  Duties include teaching undergraduate courses, student advisement and service. As an integral component of the liberal arts tradition, the criminal justice program also provides courses in the interdisciplinary general education curriculum.  Candidates must emphasize the academic success of their students, and who love to teach, especially those who will be active participants in our thriving campus community.  Applicants should be able to provide evidence of teaching excellence in higher education.  Teaching schedule is seven courses over two semesters and will include Corrections, Police and Society, and Victimology.  As Loras is a laptop campus, familiarity with and competence in progressive classroom teaching technologies is highly desirable. Previous employment in the criminal justice system is desirable but not required.  Loras College emphasizes close student-faculty interaction, and candidates will be expected to support the mission and vision of the College with respect to the College's Catholic tradition.

Duties:

DIVISION OF BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES:  The Criminal Justice Program consists of 3 full-time faculty members, and is housed within the Behavioral Sciences Division consisting of 11 full-time faculty.  The Behavioral Sciences Division offers majors in psychology, criminal justice, and social work.

THE COLLEGE. Founded in 1839, Loras College is a Catholic, four-year, coeducational, liberal arts institution with preprofessional and career preparation and dedicated to high academic, ethical and moral standards. The student body consists of approximately 1,600 students, over 90 percent of whom are full-time undergraduates. Candidates will be expected to support the mission of the College and respect the College's Catholic tradition.  The college is a wireless, laptop campus and there will be opportunity for developing technology-rich, interdisciplinary science courses for the general education curriculum. 

THE COMMUNITY. Loras College's 60 acre campus is located on one of Dubuque's highest bluffs, overlooking the Mississippi River at the junction of the states of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, about 3 hours west of Chicago. Dubuque's population is approximately 60,000 and its nineteenth century architecture is woven into limestone bluffs and provides a picturesque backdrop to the river landscape. Many residential and commercial areas have been designated as historical districts to preserve Dubuque's unique heritage. Its strong education base supports numerous cultural activities, and in addition, there are sporting events, shopping facilities, schools, and churches that are convenient to its residents. Qualifications:

ABD's considered but must have Ph.D. by August 15, 2010 to be hired at the assistant professor level.
